Organization – The mission of the Community Action Center (CAC) is to promote a healthy, caring, and just community for all people through resources, advocacy, and volunteer effort. A community-based, non-profit, human services organization, the CAC provides and advocates for the basic needs of people and families throughout Rice County. Its services and programs create a robust safety net for low-income families. These services include food access, housing, employment services, clothing, emergency assistance, youth services, transportation, health care, and more. CAC provides drop-in resource centers where immediate response and support is available. Its thriving and abundant food shelves serve fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant food to thousands of individuals each year. CAC owns and operates multiple housing projects, spanning from emergency shelter to permanent supportive housing. These housing programs include ongoing intensive case management services with tenants. Partnerships with local employers allow CAC to connect individuals to job opportunities and enhance job skills. Additionally, CAC’s retail clothing store provides the entire community access to affordable clothing. 

CAC’s resources and staff are part of the community and include partnerships with schools, businesses, faith communities, and other organizations. This extensive local network allows CAC to pursue community-engaged solutions, prioritize partnerships, and collaborate with thousands of volunteers. Currently, CAC is looking for a Community Resource Manager to help support the community responsive work of CAC in Faribault.


Job Title: Faribault Community Resource Manager

Reports to: CAC’s Senior Director

FLSA Status: Salary, exempt 

Hour Status: 40 hours, may include some nights and weekends


Job Summary: The Faribault Community Resource Manager will strategically balance listening to the priorities of the community and seeking the resources to meet those needs.  The position of Faribault Community Resource Manager will be a leader at CAC, championing and supporting the culture of a community-based, person-centered, and trauma-responsive organization. The position will support and empower staff, community members and participants to achieve CAC’s mission. This position will also support the existing activities and programs provided by CAC to Faribault community members and will work closely with both CAC’s Community Resource Director and Food Access Program Director to continue abundant food access in the community.


Our ideal candidate is invested in the Faribault community and dedicated to promoting a healthy, caring, and just community for all people.  We are looking for someone that can both listen to community needs and go out to foster the connections and resources that will serve to meet those needs.  This person has a high attention to detail with excellent organizational abilities - a communicator, connector, resource developer, and relationship builder. They should be a self-motivated quick learner, with the energy and willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of activities. They must be trustworthy with a high sense of integrity, with the ability to build and nurture trusting relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Primary Job Responsibilities:  


Community Engagement and Advocacy  - building and nurturing relationships 

  • Build trusted relationships to listen to and amplify the voices of the Faribault community most impacted by poverty, trauma, housing insecurity, and other injustices

  • Engage key stakeholders across sectors of the community, including the Community Advocacy Council (a dedicated group of current and former program participants), to develop creative solutions that address the identified needs of the community 

  • Based on information gathered, work to secure resources including grants, foundations, local community support and donations, collaborating with CAC’s Grants Manager to identify and pursue opportunities


Outreach and Communication - amplifying community voice 

  • Create a comprehensive outreach plan to build relationships across Faribault that lift up the community voice and engages all neighbors in the mission of the CAC 

  • Represent the CAC of Faribault by providing information to the community, both formally and informally

  • Lead site communications, messaging, and storytelling across online/digital platforms, including social media, as well as standard media

  • Develop relevant, meaningful methods to ensure community partners are engaged, inspired, and aware of the impact of their support


Resource Implementation - putting vision into action

  • Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all by practicing the organizational values of solidarity, employing a person-centered and trauma-responsive approach to the work 

  • Provide on-site coordination of existing non-food programming in the Faribault Resource Center in collaboration with Food Access, Community Advocates, and other organizational teams  

  • Work closely with CAC leadership for seamless communication across departments and to strategize about resource implementation opportunities for housing, financial assistance, employment, etc. which have already been identified by the community as immediate needs 

  • Design new programs and services based on community needs and available resources


Required qualities: 

  • Demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Faribault community including Rice County organizations, resources, and populations 

  • 2 or more years of experience in 

    • Human services, individual/family support, or community resources

    • Community engagement, development, or fundraising

  • Experience working alongside diverse populations 

  • Passion for equity and social justice 

Preferred qualities: 

  • 5 or more years of experience in 

    • Human services, individual/family support, or community resources

    • Community engagement, development, or fundraising

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali 

  • Ability to work evening and occasional weekend hours 

  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a community resource center setting

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Google Suite 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Highly organized with attention to detail, ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues 

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team 

  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude 

Work Environment and Physical Demands: 

● Blend of office environment, shared work space, and open, drop-in center 

● Employee is subject to minimal noise level 

● While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, kneel, sit on the floor, use hands to write, type, use computers, and lift up to 40 lbs.


Compensation – The position is designed as a full-time, salaried exempt position, however, the CAC is willing to consider this a part-time position for the right candidate.  Starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications, with a starting range of $45,000-$55,000 plus benefits (including a stipend for health care). Some components of the position may require occasional night or weekend hours.
