A Night of Irish Charm

The Rice County Historical Society is Celebrating Rice County’s Irish Heritage. Join us for this pre-St. Patty’s Day event (after all, the Irish eat corned beef year-round, not just on March 17!) The event will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Faribault Elks Lodge. The dinner, catered by Chef Jeff LaBeau, owner of the Depot Bar & Grill, will be served at 6pm. Dinner will include Corned beef and cabbage and all the trimmings, Colcannon, Jameson Irish Bread Pudding, and Irish Soda Bread. Irish music with an opportunity for dancing will be provided by Forty Shades of Green beginning at 7:00 pm.

Forty Shades of Green, a Twin Cities-based Irish and Celtic music ensemble, was formed in October of 2008 when its members played together for the first time at the annual Apple Festival at the Carpenter Nature Center in Hastings, Minnesota.

The band consists of Mary Vanory (Farmington) on fiddle and vocals, Paul Garding (St. Paul) on guitar, octave mandolin and vocals, and Kevin Carroll (Rosemount) on bodhran [Irish hand drum], bass and vocals.
Forty Shades of Green plays a wide range of traditional Irish instrumental numbers (jigs, reels, etc.) and Irish songs (ballads, rebel songs, sailing songs, comedic songs, etc.), along with some non-Irish selections for variety. Please join us for this eventful evening. Tickets for this event are $25.00 for the Dinner & Dance, or $10.00 for the Dance only ($5.00 for students). If you are joining us for dinner, please reserve tickets by February 15, 2013. If you are joining us at for the dance only, please reserve tickets by February 21st.
