Barry Adams will present a cumulative four week course on local involvement in the Civil War. Adams is a retired Licensed Gettysburg Battlefield Guide who lives in Owatonna. The focus of his course will be on Rice and Steele County Civil War Military Volunteers. There will be no homework associated with this course, but each week’s lectures will build on each other.
Tuesday night topics are as follows:
Oct. 16: 1861-62, meet George Sawyer, Ed Bassett, Merritt Case, and their comrades
Oct. 23: 1862-63, meet Alexander Chambers, Sewell Norton, Madison Bowler, and their comrades
Oct. 30: 1863-64, meet Nathan Messick, Tom Kelly, Harrison Magoon, and their comrades
Nov. 6: 1864-65, meet Henry Bilbie, Joseph Webster, William Day, and their comrades
The lectures will begin at 7:00pm. at the Rice County Historical Society Museum of History, 1814 NW Second Avenue, Faribault MN. The cost for enrolment in the series is $20. Reservations are encouraged. Please contact the Rice County Historical Society at (507) 332-2121 with any questions.
