This is an in-depth workshop, during which participants will learn the basics of genealogical research with particular focus on learning online resources. Computer and genealogy novices are welcome! Participants will get tips on organizing their genealogy, where to begin researching, what information can be found where, and more! Local experts will teach how to navigate the Dalby Database, Family Search, the Minnesota Historical Society website, and the Rice County Historical Society Research Center and Archives. After lunch, there will be time for participants to try their own hand at researching and physically and electronically saving what they find for future use.
o The registration fee includes: box lunch, 20 free copies, all handouts, internet access, and access to our research files and archives.
o Seating is limited.
o Participants are encouraged to bring laptops.
o Those who don't bring a computer may use one of RCHS's three computer stations.
The program will begin on March 16th at 10:00am at the Rice County Historical Society Museum of History, 1814 NW Second Avenue, Faribault MN. Admission is $30.00 for non-members and $25 for members.
