Introduction to Encaustic Painting with Suzy Johnson: This class is an introduction to Encaustic painting. Encaustic paints are a combination of beeswax, damar resin, and oil paint which create a strong surface as heat is applied. It is an ancient technique dating back 3000 years. Strategies for working with encaustic paint and color theory, use of embedded tissue/photos, stenciling, and masking will be covered. Prior to class, students may email images for tissue transfer to the instructor at suzyj060@gmail.com. These will be available at the class for embedding into a piece!
