The Rice County Historical Society’s 2012 Fall Banquet/Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 4, in Faribault at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior at 515 2nd Ave in Faribault. The banquet will begin with social hour at 5:00, dinner will be served at 6:00, there will be a brief business meeting as required by our bylaws at 7:00, followed by our keynote speaker; Father Jim Zotalis of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior. Father Zotalis will speak on The History of the Cathedral and Bishop Whipple.
Father Jim Zotalis has been the Dean of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior for 11 years. Before serving the Cathedral, he was vicar at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wahpteon ND, rector at St. James Episcopal Church in Fergus Falls, MN and College Professor of Art at Fergus Falls Community College. He was also chaplain at Shattuck St. Mary’s School from 1987-1989. He went to seminary at Nashotah House near Milwaukee, WI. Before seminary he was a free lance artist and public school art teacher in Hastings, MN. He grew up in Mankato, MN, where he attended school from Kindergarten through graduate school. He is married to Paula, who is a 5th grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary in Faribault. Paula and Father Zotalis have 4 grown children and 6 grand children. Father Zotalis has many interests including free lance art, collecting 1) sports cards, 2) antiques, 3) old toys. He enjoys traveling, biking, tennis and walking his miniature DOG named Alexander the Great. Father Zotalis is proud of his Greek heritage.
Please join us for an eventful evening. The social hour and meal will be catered by Marleen Gustafson, and include cheese patés and crackers, Asian salad with Mandarin oranges and ginger dressing, parmesan chicken, long grain and wild rice blend, string beans and baby carrots medley, assorted breads, cheesecakes, and a variety of beverages.
Tickets for this event are $17.50 for RCHS and Chapter members and $20.00 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased from any RCHS board members or at the Rice County Historical Society, located at 1814 NW 2nd Ave in Faribault. Please reserve a ticket by Friday September 28th.
